PhysicsWallah (PW) is gearing up for a major expansion, with co-founder Prateek Maheshwari outlining a sharp scale-up using proceeds from the company’s IPO. PW plans to open 60–70 new offline centres over the next two quarters and a total of 200 centres over the next three years, strengthening its hybrid model as competition intensifies in the edtech space.

Maheshwari told ET Now that while offline expansion requires fresh capex, PW’s online business is already profitable and does not need significant capital infusion. Instead, the company will invest in deepening its reach through 11 Indic languages and expanding access across India.

OTT platform ‘Pi’ launched at ₹300/month to boost affordable learning

As part of its broader strategy, PhysicsWallah has launched its own OTT learning platform, Pi, on November 1. With subscription pricing at ₹300 per month, PW aims to make high-quality education more accessible while continuing to grow its premium products such as Power Batch and Curious Junior. Maheshwari said these premium cohorts—built on two-way online classroom interactions—are expanding rapidly.

Online revenue to grow faster than offline; 55:45 split expected by FY30

PW’s current revenue mix stands at 52% online and 48% offline, but the company expects this to shift meaningfully in the coming years. Maheshwari projected that online will account for 55% of total revenue by FY28–FY30, driven by stronger adoption, more state board offerings, and Indic-language content.

Offline growth, meanwhile, is tightly linked to online performance—nearly 80% of offline admissions come through online channels, according to Maheshwari. PW uses online learner density, engagement and performance to decide where to open new physical centres.

Focus on South India, state boards and premium products

While continuing expansion in existing cities, PW is prioritizing three growth engines:

1. South India market

A strategic focus area for online penetration and language-led growth.

2. State board learning (Classes 9–12)

PW has already launched content for UP, Bihar, Jammu & Kashmir, Rajasthan, and MP boards, witnessing strong traction in paid enrollments.

3. Premium and hybrid learning

Courses like Curious Junior, Power Batch, and Pi OTT are positioned as high-engagement offerings designed to lift ARPUs while keeping mass-market learning affordable.

PhysicsWallah is simultaneously strengthening premium offerings and mass affordability—a dual approach aimed at navigating rising sector competition and evolving student preferences. With a multi-pronged strategy spanning offline expansion, vernacular growth, premium cohorts and new-age learning formats, the company is positioning itself to capture a larger share of India’s fast-growing education market.
