China’s holdings eased to $700.5 billion in September from $701 billion in August. In July, its holdings had fallen to $696.9 billion, the lowest since October 2008. This long-term reduction reflects China’s effort to diversify away from the U.S. dollar, support the yuan amid weaker export inflows, and manage the pressures of a slowing economy and post-COVID challenges.
