Benchmark NSE Nifty closed 46.41 points down at 25476.1 amid selling in frontline bluechip counters.
However, stocks such as Nectar Lifesc, Dreamfolks Services, Sadhana Nitro, TECIL Chemicals and Globale Tessile, touched their fresh 52-week lows.
Overall, 22 shares ended in the green in Nifty50 index, while 28 closed in the red.
In the Nifty 50 index, Shriram Finance, Bajaj Finance, HUL, Coal India Ltd and UltraTech Cem. were among top gainers during the day, while HCL Tech, Tata Steel, Hindalco, Apollo Hospital and Tech Mahindra ended in the red.
The BSE Sensex closed 176.43 points down at 83536.08. Traders piled up positions in IT Enabled Services, General, Tourism & Hospitality, Apparels and Logistics sectors, while selling was witnessed in Industrial Consumables, Metals – Non Ferrous, Learning & Education, Construction and IT – Hardware sectors during the day.
