Committee members have described her actions as “unethical” and “heinous,” and BJP MP Nishikant Dubey has stated that Lokpal has ordered the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to look into the matter in response to his corruption charge.
Why is this story important?
Dubey filed a complaint against Moitra, alleging that the businessman Darshan Hiranandani offered him payments in exchange for Moitra asking pointed questions in Parliament against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Adani Group.
Additionally, he said that she had given Hiranandani her login information, which he supposedly utilized primarily from Dubai.
Later on, Hiranandani claimed in her affidavit that she was looking for a fast route to national prominence.
After Dubey’s complaint, Moitra was questioned by the ethics panel. Dubey’s complaint was based on claims made by Moitra’s estranged partner, Supreme Court advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai.
What conclusions and suggestions did the panel reach?
It is stated that a 500-page draft document detailing many incidents of misbehavior by the TMC MP has been compiled by the ethics tribunal.
According to reports, the committee found that Moitra gave her parliamentary credentials to unapproved people, took money and perks from businessman Hiranandani, and committed a “serious misdemeanor” that calls for “serious punishment.”
The ethics committee, which is presided over by Vinod Kumar Sonkar, is anticipated to propose that Moitra be removed from the 17th Lok Sabha for her “highly objectionable, unethical, heinous, and criminal conduct.”
Moitra called the ethics panel the “vastraharan” of proverbs.
Moitra attended a hearing with the ethics panel on November 2.
She did, however, abruptly leave the session, claiming the chairperson had asked “filthy questions” and subjected her to the customary “vastraharan” (stripping).
Five of the eleven opposition MPs present boycotted the proceedings after denouncing the chairperson’s method of questioning as demeaning and insulting to Moitra.
She claimed that Sonkar questioned her about very personal matters, including who she spoke to at night and the specifics of the calls.
Adani TV has the report already. Moisture
Moitra took to social media on Wednesday to respond to the alleged recommendation of the panel for her expulsion. She wrote, “Happy to see Adani TV has a copy of the Unethical Standing Committee Report BEFORE it is placed before Committee tomorrow.”
She has agreed to provide Hiranandani access to her parliamentary credentials, but she has denied any wrongdoing or financial exchange.
Moitra claims that Hiranandani, who gave her the things she asked for, is a close friend.
