In the video, some individuals protest the sale of fish close to a temple, claiming it violates their religious beliefs.
The location is well-known for its busy Market No. 1, which attracts tourists from all over the NCR.
It is thought that the nearby Kali Temple is just as old as the marketplace.
Protests against the fish market’s location are captured on video. In the video, the group is seen confronting fish vendors, saying the market is located inappropriately and breaks the temple’s sanctity.
“This is incorrect. One of the protesters says, “Santan says we can’t hurt anyone.” He goes on to argue that offering meat to deities isn’t supported by Hindu scriptures. “Some people hold this belief. But what is happening next to this temple is hurting the sentiments of Sanatanis like us,” he said.
Political fallout
A TMC MP claims that the BJP has threatened fish sellers. In the same video, another man is seen asking a customer about jeevhatya next to the temple, to which the customer responds that animal offerings are common in many temples.
Mahua Moitra, a member of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) who shared the video, said that members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) intimidated Bengalis who ate fish. She stated that such an incident has not occurred in 60 years. In addition, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Saurabh Bhardwaj, who stated, “I’m a vegetarian… I never had problem.”
The counterattack by TMC Moitra intensifies her attack on BJP
Moitra stepped up her attack on Wednesday, claiming that the BJP is dictating not only where Bengalis can conduct business but also what they should eat. She made fun of the party’s desire for everyone to “eat dhoklas and chant Jai Shri Ram thrice a day” and made fun of the party. The TMC leader also said that the BJP is “anti-Hindu, anti-Muslim, and anti-Constitution,” and that it is targeting the very community that it says it represents.
BJP refutes allegations, defends fish traders
The BJP has said that Moitra’s claims are untrue and that she posted a video that was “tailored” to cause trouble. Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva said fish traders of Chittaranjan Park had always respected the sanctity of the temple and maintained high cleanliness standards.
He urged the Delhi Police to take strict action against those trying to disrupt community harmony in CR Park.
