"Whose money"—BJP queries RaGa on the Rs. 300 crore recovery tied to a Congress MP
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) poked fun at Congressman Rahul Gandhi on Sunday following the Income Tax (I-T) Department’s discovery of more over Rs. 300 crore in cash from the assets of a distillery company based in Odisha.
The family of Rajya Sabha MP Dhiraj Sahu of the Congress is said to be running the company.
JP Nadda, the head of the BJP, described it as “the royal family’s” “exploitation” of people.
Officials anticipated that the recovery would surpass Rs. 350 crore, potentially making it the agency’s largest cash recovery to date.

Why is this story important?
The I-T Department has been investigating possible tax fraud at many Boudh Distillery Private Limited (BDPL) outlets across three states since Wednesday.
This big Odisha-based alcohol manufacturing enterprise is reportedly owned by Sahu’s family.
His older brother Uday Shanker Prasad is the chairman of the company, while his son Ritesh Sahu is the managing director of his BDPL.
Raids on “out-of-book” transactions and remittances have reportedly been initiated by the department on the basis of “actionable intelligence.”

Nadda believes Gandhi has to respond.
Nadda wrote in Hindi on X, “Brother, you and your leader [Gandhi] will have to answer,” in reference to Sahu. The masses cannot be exploited here in the name of the royal family; this is the new India.”
“You will be tired running away, but the law will not give up pursuit,” stated the officer.
Gandhi’s quiet was questioned in the meantime by Union minister G Kishan Reddy.
“You always criticize the Income Tax Department but why are you silent now?” he asked in his letter.

raids after an intelligence warning about sales of out-of-print books
Notes worth more than Rs. 300 crore have been tallied thus far in the ongoing raids in West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Odisha.
Nonetheless, in what is being referred to as the largest-ever cash recovery, officials anticipate that the total would surpass Rs. 350 crore.
Almirahs at BDPL’s Bolangir headquarters alone yielded at least Rs. 250 crore in recoverable value.
According to reports, these searches were started in response to an intelligence tip about large-scale illicit sales and financial transfers by booze vendors, distributors, and business associations.

Congress withdraws its support for Sahu’s venture
The Congress, meantime, has disassociated itself from the raids; according to General Secretary Jairam Ramesh, only Sahu is qualified to explain the significant cash haul from houses connected to a him.
Inquiries from Sahu and his family were also made to Banna Gupta and Subodh Kant Sahay, two other Congress leaders.
Gupta stated that all would become obvious after the probe was completed. He made it clear that it had nothing to do with the party and was Sahu’s concern.
