Callie Cox, chief market strategist at Ritholtz Wealth Management, described a shutdown as “like a slow car crash that we’re all watching happen,” noting that investors are already thinking about hedging. The Federal Reserve relies heavily on government data to make monetary policy decisions, balancing price stability and maximum employment. Markets are currently pricing in a 0.25% rate cut at the Fed’s upcoming meeting on October 28–29.
