Tragic Bus Accident in Unnao: 18 Dead, 17 Injured
In a devastating incident on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao district, at least 18 people lost their lives, and over 15 others sustained injuries when a sleeper bus collided with a milk tanker on Wednesday morning. The tragic accident occurred near Gadha village as the bus, en route from Bihar to Delhi, attempted to overtake the tanker, resulting in a catastrophic collision that caused the bus to overturn.
According to officials, the majority of the bus’s passengers were migrant workers. Rescue operations were promptly initiated, and all injured individuals were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. Among the injured, three were reported to be in critical condition. Efforts are ongoing to confirm the identities of the deceased, as the local authorities continue their rescue and relief operations.
This tragic accident is reminiscent of another incident earlier this year in Unnao. In April, eight people were killed, and over 20 were injured when a speeding truck collided head-on with a bus on the Hardoi-Unnao Road near Jamaldipur village. The truck ripped through one side of the bus, causing significant casualties. The injured were admitted to the Unnao district hospital and LLR Hospital in Kanpur. The bus driver in that incident fled the scene, while the truck driver was apprehended by the authorities.
In another recent accident, at least 40 people, including several school children, were injured when a bus overturned in Haryana’s Panchkula district. The accident, which took place near Naulata village of Pinjore town, was attributed to the bus driver’s overspeeding. Overloading and poor road conditions were also cited as contributing factors.
These incidents highlight the dire need for improved road safety measures and stricter enforcement of traffic regulations to prevent such tragedies in the future. Road accidents involving buses have been a recurring issue, often resulting in significant loss of life and numerous injuries. The latest accident in Unnao adds to the growing list of fatal road mishaps in India, underscoring the urgent need for comprehensive road safety strategies and public awareness campaigns to mitigate such risks.
In another news, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to Russia, discussed the ongoing conflict in Ukraine with President Vladimir Putin. Modi emphasized the importance of dialogue and diplomacy, stressing that no solution can be found on the battlefield. During their talks, Modi raised concerns about Russia’s missile strike on a children’s hospital in Ukraine, highlighting the profound impact such incidents have on humanity, especially when innocent children are involved.
Modi’s remarks came during his first visit to Russia since the Ukraine conflict began in February 2022. He met with Putin both privately at his country home and at the annual summit in the Kremlin. Modi’s statements reflect India’s position on the need for a peaceful resolution to the conflict, urging all parties involved to seek solutions through diplomatic means rather than continued warfare. His comments followed criticism from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy regarding the meeting between the Indian and Russian leaders.
Modi’s plea for peace and dialogue underscores the international community’s growing concern over the humanitarian impact of the Ukraine conflict. The Indian Prime Minister’s visit to Russia and his discussions with Putin highlight India’s efforts to advocate for a peaceful resolution and the protection of innocent lives amid ongoing global conflicts.
