Gurugram: In a bid to decongest the Jharsa Chowk and Gurudwara Road and ease traffic movement in the area, road-owning agencies have been directed to remove illegal encroachments on the roadside by unauthorised vendors and shops, traffic police officials said on Thursday.

At a meeting between traffic police officials and the Gurugram Industrial Association on Thursday, deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Dr Rajesh Mohan said that time-bound solutions to traffic jams lasting 15-20 minutes during peak hours in the industrial areas will be implemented in the coming months.
The meeting was held following a report of traffic-related issues in the industrial areas due to the poor condition of roads in Sector 38 and heavy vehicular movement in the vicinity, according to officials privy to the matter.
To reduce jams, DCP Mohan said, traffic police are expected to step up enforcement in the industrial areas as part of their plan to ease vehicular traffic.
“If required, selected stretches in the business areas will be converted into one-way corridors to regulate vehicle movement, further allowing the pedestrians to walk freely,” a traffic official said, requesting anonymity.
In December 2025, a traffic trial was conducted to decongest Udyog Vihar between WOCO building and Pipal Chowk by confining the vehicle movement to one way during the peak hours on the 2.5 to 3 kilometre stretch connecting to Old Delhi road near Dundahera. Following that, the traffic police officials announced streamlining measures on the stretch, such as signal synchronisation, and their varied timings on peak hours, especially near Pipal Chowk.
Frequent visitors to Udyog Vihar said that road lanes are often occupied by street vendors and taxis. “The obstructions on roads lead to a jam-like situation during the clock-in and clock-out hours,” said Neeraj Khatana, a resident of Bhondsi.
Another daily motorist, Chaman, a resident of Rithoj, said poor enforcement led to trucks occupying service lanes during the early morning hours.
During the meeting, Mohan addressed similar concerns raised by the local business community by suggesting that the traffic police will soon launch a special campaign against encroachments and unauthorised parking, with the help of the road owning-agencies and local civic bodies.
