The 30-share Sensex traded 269.91 points down at 81281.72, while the 50-share Nifty index fell 77.46 points to 24748.75.
In the Nifty 50 index, 16 stocks traded in the green, while 34 stocks were in the red.
Stocks such as ASM Tech, Intelligent Supply, Autoriders Intnl, Dugar Housing Dev. and Mahamaya Steel hit their fresh 52-week high, while Tantia Const, Pulsar International, Shri Niwas Leasing(PP), Orchid Pharma and New Light Apparels touched their new 52-week low in trade.
