Sensex: Nifty, Sensex rise for a 3rd day after US Fed rate cut – News Air Insight

Mumbai: India’s stock indices closed 0.4% higher on Thursday, rising for the third straight session after the US Federal Reserve cut interest rates by 25 basis points in line with expectations.

The NSE Nifty finished at 25,423.60, up 0.4%, or 93.35 points. The BSE Sensex ended at 83,013.96, 0.4%, or 320.25 points higher. India’s Volatility Index (VIX) dropped 3.5% to a record low of 9.89 on Thursday as risk perception among traders remained low.

The Nifty Mid-cap 150 and the Small-cap 250 indices advanced 0.3% and 0.1% each on Thursday. Out of the 4,342 shares traded on BSE, 2,097 advanced, 2,083 declined.

In the past week, the mid-cap and small-cap indices gained 1.8% and 2.3%, respectively.

Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) bought shares worth a net ₹366.7 crore on Thursday. Their domestic counterparts also bought shares worth ₹3,326.6 crore.
