The Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) was used to file charges against Sagar Sharma, Manoranhan D, Neelam Azad, and Amol Shinde.
Azad and Shinde were detained for sprinkling smoke outside Parliament, while Sharma and Manoranhan were taken into custody for breaking into and damaging the Lok Sabha.
Why is this story important?
Sharma and Manoranjan, in an apparent massive security lapse, leaped from the visitors’ gallery into the Lok Sabha chamber and detonated smoke bombs.
Before being arrested, Neelam Azad and Amol Shinde, two additional protestors, carried out a similar demonstration outside Parliament.
The Lok Sabha Secretariat suspended eight people on Thursday for the mistakes that resulted in the security breach.
Under the IPC and UAPA, all accused
Indian Express reports that the Delhi Police has filed a formal complaint (FIR) against all four of them at the Parliament Street police station, alleging violations of sections 153, 120-B, and 452 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Additionally, they faced charges under UAPA sections 16 and 18.
In addition, authorities reported that a fifth suspect has been taken into custody and that there were a total of six participants in the incident on Wednesday.
Investigation turned over to Special Cell
The Special Cell’s Counter Intelligence Unit has now taken over the probe.
Notably, it was previously disclosed that over the previous few days, each of the suspects had independently arrived in Delhi. They were taken to “the house of his friend in Gurgaon,” where they were all lodged by Lalit Jha, who is presently evading capture.
Manoranhan had also done a reconnaissance during the monsoon session of Parliament.
For misbehavior, 14 opposition MPs were suspended.
A day after the security breach, 14 Lok Sabha MPs and one Rajya Sabha MP were suspended from the Parliament for interfering with House proceedings.
S R Parthiban, a DMK MP, was suspended, but it was later lifted because he wasn’t there and his name was a added “by mistake.”
Demanding a conversation about the breach, a number of opposition leaders asked Home Minister Amit Shah to address them.
