On May 14, 1960, he was born into a well-known legal family. His mother taught Hindi at Lady Shri Ram College, and his father, Justice Dev Raj Khanna, was a judge on the Delhi High Court.

Equity Khanna completed his tutoring from Delhi’s Advanced School in 1977 and moved on from St Stephen’s School in 1980.

His residency as CJI will go on till May 13, 2025.
