On September 2, Srinivas joined NSE’s board as a public interest director. He has been appointed for a period of three years on the NSE board. The exchange has been without a chairman for about two years since Girish Chandra Chaturvedi’s term ended. Srinivas, an economics graduate from Shriram College, Delhi, and an MBA holder from Strathclyde Business School, UK, was a career bureaucrat.
He played a key role in implementing the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), considered one of the most significant economic reforms in the country. Additionally, he is involved in framing rules on conflict of interest and disclosures of board members of Sebi.
After his retirement in May 2020, Srinivas became the founding chairman of IFSCA, the unified regulator for international financial services in the country, serving until July 2023. Alongside Srinivas, NSE’s board consists of eight other members. Former TCS MD Rajesh Gopinathan, Indian Institute of Technology (Bombay) professor S Sudarshan, former Sebi executive director S Ravindran, retired Manipur court chief justice Abhilasha Kumari and GNLU law professor Mamata Biswal hold public interest director positions at NSE.
