Himanta Sarma Expresses Gratitude to Ratan Tata for Revolutionary Investment in Assam

Assam’s dynamic Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, recently convened with industrial titan Ratan Tata in Mumbai, extending heartfelt appreciation for Tata’s visionary investment in the state. The forthcoming Tata Electronics Private Limited semiconductor plant, with an impressive investment of ₹27,000 crore, promises to redefine the technological landscape of Assam.

The proposed Tata semiconductor hub, strategically located in Morigaon’s Jagiroad, is poised to catapult the region onto the global semiconductor map while igniting a new era of economic prosperity in East India. Following his fruitful discussions with Mr. Tata and Tata Sons chairman N. Chandrasekaran in Mumbai, Mr. Sarma underscored the monumental significance of this transformative investment.

Taking to social media, Mr. Sarma conveyed profound gratitude to Shri Ratan Tata and Shri N. Chandrasekharan on behalf of the people of Assam, commending their resolute belief in the state’s potential to execute this game-changing venture. With expectations high for chip production to commence by 2025, Mr. Sarma emphasized the far-reaching impact of the semiconductor facility on the region’s economic trajectory.

In addition to discussions on the semiconductor plant, Mr. Sarma explored the establishment of a state-of-the-art Skill Development Centre within the precincts of the Jagiroad facility. This pioneering initiative seeks to empower Northeastern youth by offering specialized courses in Artificial Intelligence, semiconductors, and electronics, thereby enhancing their employability prospects within the burgeoning semiconductor sector.

Highlighting ongoing efforts to upskill Assam’s workforce, Mr. Sarma revealed that 1,500 individuals, predominantly women, are currently undergoing training at Tata facilities in and around Bangalore. This strategic endeavor aims to position them for leadership roles upon the commencement of operations at the semiconductor facility in 2025.

Last week, the inauguration ceremony of the Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility in Morigaon, graced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marked a significant milestone in India’s semiconductor manufacturing journey. This facility, established by Tata Electronics Private Limited under the Modified Scheme for Semiconductor Assembly, Testing, Marking, and Packaging (ATMP), holds immense promise for bolstering India’s self-reliance in semiconductor production.

Under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam is poised to harness the transformative potential of this monumental investment, driving economic growth and fostering technological innovation across the region.
