The files that users have recently opened, shared, edited, and added to Google Calendar events are the basis for these recommendations.
The intention is to enable users to “get started quickly” with their tasks by giving them easy access to pertinent files and folders.
Improved layout and navigation
The toolbar featuring a handy “Files” and “Folders” switcher is the focal point of the redesigned Google Drive homepage. To aid in finding the pertinent files more quickly, there are additional filters for type, people, modified date, and location.
According to Google, the updated layout complies with Material Design 3 standards and will enable users to “navigate across Drive much more efficiently.”
This update follows the release of the mobile apps for iOS and Android, which have a new, smaller homepage along with a “Suggested” view.
This time, the default start page will be Home View.
The default starting page when you visit a drive.google.com will be the new Home view.
Users do have the option to return to “My Drive” as their homepage, though. When the Home view is available for their account, users will see a banner alerting them to the change. They can use Settings to return to the previous homepage.
All Google Workspace users and users with personal Google Accounts are presently receiving the changes, and this process will continue through January.
