Dodgers Boss Speaks Out on Alex Vesia’s World Series Leave Due to Family Emergency

Alex Vesia’s teammates are showing love in the dugout and beyond.

The Los Angeles Dodgers paid homage to their star pitcher during game three of the World Series against the Toronto Blue Jays inside Dodgers Stadium Oct. 27. In support of Alex—who is absent from the series due to a “deeply personal family matter”—teammates donned the number 51 on the side of their blue hats.

“It’s just something that we talked about,” pitcher Clayton Kershaw told reporters in a post-game interview. “I’m new to the bullpen, but Ves, he means a lot to all of us. And he was a huge part of this team, huge part of that bullpen. So, we just wanted to do something to honor him.”

The Dodgers—who went on to win game three after a record six hours and 18 innings—nor Alex have not shared any further details about his personal matter. Ahead of the start of the World Series, the Dodgers shared that Alex—who is expecting his first baby with wife Kayla Vesia—would not be playing.
