Woman Alleges Abuse by Husband with Political Connections, Appeals to CM Stalin

A woman has come forward with serious allegations against her husband, Deivaseyal, accusing him of physical and emotional abuse, coercion, and exploitation. She claimed that the situation drove her to the brink of suicide.

“He tortures me, threatens to cut me into pieces, and forces me to sleep with men he points to. I am confined to my home and couldn’t even appear for my exams,” she said. She added that despite filing complaints, no action has been taken against him. Appealing directly to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, she warned that if justice is not served, she would end her life.

She further alleged that Deivaseyal had concealed his previous marriage and forced her into their relationship through threats directed at her and her family. What began as a love affair, she said, quickly turned into a cycle of control and threats involving sexual coercion with other political associates.

These allegations have led to a political controversy in Tamil Nadu. The opposition AIADMK has accused the ruling DMK of shielding Deivaseyal due to his alleged political connections. AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami claimed that police were initially reluctant to register the woman’s complaint, citing Deivaseyal’s links to Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi.

In response, police stated that their preliminary inquiry did not support the allegations of sexual assault or abduction. “The woman had previously approached Panapakkam police station regarding issues with Deivaseyal. Both parties discussed the matter and initially agreed to live together again. Later, a revised complaint was submitted, based on which an FIR was registered,” a senior officer said, as reported by The New Indian Express.

The case has drawn comparisons to the 2019 Pollachi sexual abuse case, where a gang of men was convicted for blackmailing and assaulting several women over multiple years. All accused in that case were recently sentenced to life imprisonment.
