Delhi Expired Food Racket: Godown in Dwarka Raided
Acting on a tip-off received on 29 March, police conducted a raid at a godown in Bamnoli village in Dwarka, where large quantities of soft drinks and packaged food items were found.
Authorities seized 115 boxes of soft drink cans along with branded biscuits that allegedly had tampered packaging and altered expiry dates.
Repackaging of Expired Products with Fake Labels
Investigations revealed that the accused were procuring expired or near-expiry products and modifying their labels to extend shelf life. These items were then sold in local markets or even exported.
Officials said forged batch numbers and manipulated expiry dates were used to make the products appear safe for consumption.
Three Arrested in Dwarka Food Safety Case
Two individuals, identified as Shivam Singh (27) and Lokesh Kumar (35), were apprehended from the spot. During questioning, they revealed they were working under the instructions of the firm’s owner, Kamal Mudgil (56), who was later arrested.This brought the total number of arrests in the case to three.
FSSAI Joins Investigation, Samples Sent for Testing
Officials from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) were called to the site to verify licences and collect product samples.
According to police, all items with forged details were seized, and further testing is underway to determine the extent of contamination and health risks.
Fake Toothpaste Factory Busted in Outer Delhi
In a separate operation, Delhi Police raided a godown in Mahaveer Vihar, Kanjhawala, where a counterfeit toothpaste manufacturing unit was being run.
Six individuals were arrested for allegedly filling substandard paste into empty tubes of a reputed brand and sealing them using machines before packaging them for sale.
Counterfeit Goods Seized, Machinery Recovered
The raid led to the seizure of large quantities of fake toothpaste, empty tubes, cartons, and tube-filling and sealing equipment.
Police described the operation as unhygienic and potentially hazardous, raising serious concerns about consumer safety.
Probe Underway to Trace Supply Chains
Authorities have launched a wider investigation to identify supply chains and distribution networks linked to both the expired food racket and the counterfeit toothpaste operation.
Officials emphasised that strict action will be taken against those involved, as efforts continue to curb the circulation of unsafe and fake consumer products in Delhi.

Consumers have been urged to remain vigilant, check packaging details carefully, and report suspicious goods to authorities to prevent potential health risks.
