As per the report, the number of vehicles per thousand population was 522 as of March 19, 2026. The total number of vehicles registered till 2025-26 was around 87.61 lakh, increasing from 81.18 lakh registered in the previous financial year.
Till March 19, 2026, 66.20 lakh vehicles were deregistered under the ban implemented for diesel vehicles more than 10 years old and petrol vehicles of more than 15 years old.
“The highest number of increase was registered in the two-wheeler category, including motorcycles and scooters. Till March 19, 5,927,775 two-wheelers were registered, making up for 67.65 per cent of the total number of vehicles,” the report states.
In the public transport sector, DTC is the largest public transport entity in the city and NCR, transporting about 24.29 lakh passengers per day on average in 2025-26 , a reduction from the previous year of 2024-25 when the average daily ridership was registered at 25.58 lakh per day.
“In March 2026, Delhi Transport Corporation has a fleet size of 6,100 buses, comprising 1,002 non-AC low-floor buses and 760 AC low-floor buses,” the report says.
The report added that 2750 AC low-floor electric 12 metre buses and 1588 AC low-floor electric nine metre buses are in its fleet.
“In the transport sector, there are 86 buses on 27 routes for night bus service. Under its gender sensitisation program for bus crew undertaken by DTC, 30 ladies special buses are also being plied during peak hours on 30 routes. DTC is also operating an International Bus Service on the Delhi-Kathmandu route,” the report states.
The number of bus breakdowns has also increased; in the current financial year, 929 bus breakdowns were registered, an increase from 897 in 2024-25. This year, a total of 1503 electric buses broke down in 12-metre and 9-metre categories; the breakdowns are per 10,000 buses, the report added.
Under the electric vehicle push, till March 19, a total of 47,01,04 electric vehicles have been registered in Delhi, the report added.
