Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry are on high alert for more torrential rains as Cyclone Ditwah moves towards the Indian coast. The weather department has also issued a red alert for the Bay of Bengal coast. IMD Director General Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said the cyclone is currently centred over the Bay of Bengal near Sri Lanka and is moving in a north-northwest direction. Ditwah has killed over 120 people across Sri Lanka and left 130 missing. Most of the deaths occurred due to landslides after more than 300 mm of rain lashed the eastern and central regions. Nearly 44,000 people have been affected nationwide, forcing many to take shelter in schools and public buildings.
