Gandhi Bhawan in Hyderabad hosted a Congress Legislature Party (CLP) gathering for the recently elected MLAs. A resolution was passed by it allowing Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge to select the next chief minister.
Among the high-ranking party officials present were Telangana Congress chief A Revanth Reddy and Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar.
Why is this story important?
By winning 64 seats in the 119-member state assembly, the Congress overthrew the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government in Telangana, marking a historic victory.
Considering the party’s dismal showing in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh prior to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the outcome is seen as a much-needed lift.
MLAs want Congressman Shivakumar to be the Telangana chief minister.
Following the meeting on Monday, Shivakuamar disclosed that every recently elected Congress MLA had agreed to give National President Kharge permission to select the next state chief minister.
The Karnataka deputy chief minister informed the media, “We will follow whatever the high command decides.”
He also expressed gratitude to Telangana voters for casting a sizable majority in support of the Congress.
Reddy is expected to succeed Telangana CM
Leading Telangana Congressman V Hanumantha Rao made hints earlier on Monday that the state chief of the party would succeed as chief minister.
“We will have to see what is decided in the CLP meeting,” he stated to ANI.
“Most probably, Revanth Reddy has chances to become the chief minister going by all the work he did,” Rao said.

In addition, Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan will receive a list of all elected MLAs from the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday.
The governor must formally dissolve the present legislative assembly before the incoming chief minister and their cabinet members can take the oath of office.
Furthermore, it’s unclear if the chief minister will take the oath on Monday by himself or with the participation of other ministers.
