BluSmart Driver Robs Woman and Child at Gunpoint, Arrested in Gurgaon

In a shocking incident, a woman and her six-year-old son were robbed by a BluSmart cab driver in Gurgaon. The incident took place on November 29, 2024, during their journey from Airia Mall in Sector 68 to their residence in Sector 86. The driver, identified as Sonu Singh, stopped the vehicle near Sector 83, just 2 km from their destination. Pointing a gun at the woman, he demanded a transfer of ₹55,000 via UPI after checking her account balance.

According to the woman’s complaint, the driver seized their belongings, including a suitcase, and forced them out of the cab before driving away. Following the ordeal, the woman approached the Kherki Daula police station, where an FIR was filed under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act.

The police launched an immediate investigation, examining the booking details, transaction records, and CCTV footage. Their efforts led to the identification of Sonu Singh, a resident of Kohta village in Uttar Pradesh’s Jalaun district. He had recently moved to Gurgaon after working in Gujarat for a significant period. Sonu was apprehended on December 3 at his residence in Badha, Gurgaon.

Deepak Kumar Jewaria, Manesar’s Deputy Commissioner of Police, confirmed the arrest and shared updates on the ongoing investigation. Efforts are underway to recover the stolen money and the firearm used in the crime. Authorities are also checking if the driver has a history of criminal activities.

The incident sparked outrage on social media, with the woman’s acquaintances tagging BluSmart in their posts. One user described the traumatic experience, expressing concern for the safety of passengers, particularly children. The cab company issued a statement emphasizing its commitment to customer safety. BluSmart revealed that their proactive approach, including detailed record-keeping of drivers’ backgrounds and addresses, played a crucial role in enabling the police to apprehend the suspect within 24 hours.

The company reassured the public that it is working closely with law enforcement and offering support to the affected family. It reiterated its dedication to ensuring the safety of passengers and pledged ongoing cooperation with the investigation.
