Controversy Erupts Over BJP’s Post Comparing Indira Gandhi to Hitler
A fresh political storm has erupted over a controversial post made by the official social media handle of the BJP, drawing sharp criticism and legal action from opposition leaders.
The post, which included the line “INDIRA ≠ INDIA, INDIRA = HITLER”, was accompanied by a 38-second video referring to India’s National Emergency (1975–1977). The video reportedly used graphic imagery and messaging that criticized former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and drew parallels to authoritarian regimes.
Congress leader Manohar has strongly condemned the post, calling it “derogatory and inflammatory.” He stated that the content disrespected the legacy of Indira Gandhi and was deliberately created to stoke communal and religious tensions.
Following the complaint, an FIR has been registered at the High Grounds Police Station, and investigations are now underway.
In another post on X (formerly Twitter), the BJP Karnataka unit reignited the debate, writing, “The country can never forget this cruelty of Indira Gandhi” and using the hashtag #SamvidhanHatyaDiwas, referring to the period of the Emergency.
Manohar has demanded immediate legal action against the BJP’s official handle, stressing that such posts not only insult history but also pose a threat to communal harmony in the country.
As the investigation continues, this incident serves as a reminder of how sensitive historical events, when politicized on social media, can quickly spiral into legal and political battles.
