Arvind Kejriwal Accuses BJP of Favoring the Rich Ahead of Delhi Assembly Elections
On the eve of the Delhi Assembly elections, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led central government, accusing it of waiving off loans worth ₹10 lakh crore for a select group of 400-500 wealthy individuals over the past five years. Speaking at a press conference, Kejriwal presented a stark comparison between the “Kejriwal model” and the “BJP model” of governance, urging Delhi’s voters to choose wisely.
He claimed that under the AAP-led government, citizens of Delhi benefit from schemes providing up to ₹25,000 per month, emphasizing the party’s focus on welfare programs like education, healthcare, and public infrastructure. In contrast, he accused the BJP of redirecting public funds to benefit their “rich friends” and warned that the opposition would halt all welfare schemes if elected.
The BJP and Congress have stepped up their campaigns, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah accusing Kejriwal of misusing public funds for personal luxuries, such as building a ₹52 crore “sheesh mahal” despite earlier promises of simple living. Shah also raised allegations of corruption in the liquor policy and criticized Kejriwal for failing to fulfill his promise of cleaning the Yamuna river.
The high-stakes Delhi elections, scheduled for February 5, will see voting across 70 constituencies, with the majority mark set at 36 seats. The campaign phase has been marked by sharp exchanges over issues like pollution, governance, and corruption, reflecting the fierce competition between AAP, BJP, and Congress.
As the date nears, both parties are doubling down on their narratives, with Kejriwal positioning himself as a pro-people leader and the BJP targeting his credibility. The outcome will determine whether AAP secures its third consecutive term in Delhi.
