Urban centres see bulk of 73.7 lakh voter deletions in Gujarat SIR News Air Insight

Gandhinagar: Of the total 5.08 crore voters in Gujarat, the names of 73.73 lakh electors were deleted from the draft electoral rolls following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), according to data released by the Election Commission of India.

The data shows that among the 73.74 lakh voters who did not find their names in the draft list, 51.86 lakh voters (10.20%) were marked as absent or shifted and remained unmapped. Another 18.07 lakh voters (3.55%) were recorded as deceased, while 3.81 lakh voters (0.75%) were found to be enrolled at multiple locations.

The deletions were higher in urban centres compared to rural areas. Ahmedabad district alone saw 14.52 lakh names removed from the rolls, followed by Surat with 12.50 lakh deletions, Vadodara with 5.04 lakh and Rajkot with 3.36 lakh. Assembly data underscores the urban trend. In Ahmedabad district, Vejalpur lost 1,07,713 voters from an original electorate of 4,24,051. Vatva saw 1,14,822 deletions from 4,22,425 voters, while Amraiwadi recorded 88,029 deletions .
