Indian benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty opened lower Monday, dragged down by losses in financial and oil & gas shares, as renewed global trade tensions rattled investor sentiment after U.S. President Donald Trump escalated his trade dispute with Beijing following China’s move to tighten restrictions on rare earth exports, while investors at home kept a close watch on the market debut of Tata Capital, the country’s largest IPO of 2025 so far.
The S&P BSE Sensex fell 429 points, or 0.49%, to trade at 82,093, while the NSE Nifty 50 dropped 125 points, or 0.5%, to 25,160.
