Woman Alleges Assault, Injection at MLA Munirathna’s Office

A woman identifying herself as a BJP worker has filed a serious complaint alleging sexual assault and physical abuse at the office of Karnataka MLA Munirathna. According to her statement, she was lured to the office by the MLA’s aides under the pretext of receiving help in resolving criminal cases, which she claims were falsely filed against her at Munirathna’s behest.

Once inside the office, she alleges that Munirathna and his associates forcibly stripped her, threatened to harm her son if she resisted, and instructed the men present to rape her. The woman further alleges that an unidentified man later entered with a white box, from which Munirathna allegedly took a syringe and injected her with an unknown substance.

She reports suffering severe health complications following the alleged assault and was diagnosed with an incurable virus after hospitalization earlier this year. On May 19, following a suicide attempt involving pill consumption, she approached the police and filed a formal complaint.

An FIR has now been registered against Munirathna and his associates under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Section 376D (gangrape), Section 270 (malignant act likely to spread infection), and Section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt). Additional charges include Sections 354, 504, 506, 509, and 34. Three of Munirathna’s aides have been named in the complaint, while one accused remains unidentified.

This case surfaces while Munirathna is already under investigation for corruption. The Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker has granted permission to pursue charges related to a bribery case, where Munirathna allegedly demanded ₹36 lakh and accepted ₹20 lakh for a contract.

Furthermore, this is not the first time Munirathna has faced such serious accusations. In September 2024, another woman accused him of repeated sexual assault between 2020 and 2022, also alleging that he coerced her into participating in criminal conspiracies, including honey-trapping politicians using HIV-infected women.
