The 30-share Sensex traded 222.62 points down at 81836.8, while the 50-share Nifty index fell 54.0 points to 24891.45.
In the Nifty 50 index, 21 stocks traded in the green, while 29 stocks were in the red.
Stocks such as ETT Ltd, Resonance Spec, Timex Group, Stampede Cap(DVR)and Kilitch Drug hit their fresh 52-week high, while Sybly Ind, National Plywood Ind, Nam Securities, Dynamic Port and Jai Balaji Inds touched their new 52-week low in trade.
