Benchmark NSE Nifty closed 74.35 points down at 24945.45 amid selling in frontline bluechip counters.
However, stocks such as Protean eGov Techno, SKIL Infrastructure, Techindia Nirman, Varanium Cloud and Future Consumer, touched their fresh 52-week lows.
Overall, 19 shares ended in the green in Nifty50 index, while 31 closed in the red.
In the Nifty 50 index, Bajaj Auto, Shriram Finance, Power Grid, Hero MotoCorp and Bajaj Finance were among top gainers during the day, while Eternal, Grasim Inds., Infosys, Tata Consumer and TCS ended in the red.
The BSE Sensex closed 271.17 points down at 82059.42. Traders piled up positions in IT Enabled Services, General, Tourism & Hospitality, Retail and Auto sectors, while selling was witnessed in Defence, Diversified, Miscellaneous, Building Materials and Tobacco sectors during the day.
