DMK’s stance on NEP criticized by Pradhan
Pradhan said that the government of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) changed its position on the National Education Policy (NEP) for political reasons. “I was accused of misleading the Parliament regarding Tamil Nadu’s consent for the establishment of PM-SHRI Schools yesterday by DMK MPs and Hon’ble CM Stalin.” He went on to say that “DMK’s retrograde politics is a great disservice to the bright future of Tamil Nadu and its students.”
Call for action
Pradhan tells CM Stalin to put the interests of students first. He urged CM MK Stalin to prioritize the interests of students over political gain. The three-language formula for putting the NEP into action was agreed upon in the initial MoU. In response to Tamil Nadu’s stated willingness to sign the PM SHRI MoU for the academic year 2024–25, the PM SHRI MoU was amended to remove the key paragraph referring to the complete implementation of NEP 2020.
Contestations of the scheme Implementation of the PM SHRI scheme in controversy .
This follows Stalin’s Monday posting of a letter from Pradhan dated August 30, 2024, in which Pradhan claimed that the state had never approved the MoU on PM-SHRI in its original form. “Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who thinks himself as king, speaking with arrogance should have control over his tongue. Wasn’t it you who informed me via email that the Tamil Nadu government had completely rejected the PM SHRI MoU, the three-language policy, and the NEP?” He stated.
Kritik of politics DMK’s political strategy and educational model are criticized by Pradhan.
After the minister referred to the Tamil Nadu government as “dishonest” and the people of the state as “uncivilized,” during the same session, Pradhan and the DMK engaged in a verbal altercation. DMK MP Kanimozhi NVN Somu asked Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to take action for “contempt of the house” as a result of this. After Pradhan shared the latter, Kanimozhi told reporters the state did agree on setting up PM SHRI Schools, but on one condition—based on the committee recommendations.
