The diplomatic career of India in 2023: A year of firsts
India has recently achieved considerable progress in the field of international diplomacy.
Not only did India host the esteemed G20 Summit, but it also reinforced its status as a rapidly expanding economy by striking significant bilateral deals with major global powers.
Additionally, G7 and COP28 summits, as well as other bilateral talks, were attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
These are a few significant events that happened in 2023 and will never be forgotten.

‘Diplomatic achievement of the year’ at the G20 Summit
During its hosting of the 18th G20 Leaders’ Summit in September, India witnessed the unanimous acceptance of the “G20 New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration.”
It covered a number of important international topics, including healthcare, economic cooperation, peace, and climate change.
Declaring it a “diplomatic achievement of the year,” External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said India had succeeded in getting “everybody to agree but on what we agreed on.”

India welcomed its first The Global South Summit’s Voice
Furthermore, by essentially holding the inaugural “Voice of Global South Summit” in January, India took the lead in voicing the concerns of the Global South.
29 countries from Latin America and the Caribbean, 47 from Africa, 7 from Europe, 31 from Asia, and 11 from Oceania were among the minimum of 125 countries that took part in the summit.
This idea was also presented by India at the G20 Summit.

Collaboration on international infrastructure and investment
On the fringes of the G20 Summit, Modi and US President Joe Biden co-chaired a crucial gathering about the Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGII).
After that, India agreed to establish the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), which might compete with the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
The United States, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the European Union, Italy, France, and Germany are among the other signatories.

First official visit by PM Modi to the US
Additionally, PM Modi made his first state visit to the US in June 2023, which marks the pinnacle of friendly bilateral relations. During his three-day visit, he met with Biden at least three times and signed a few bilateral agreements.
Along with speaking to US Congressmen, he also met with a few of the leading CEOs in Silicon Valley.
Finally, he stated that the visit strengthened the connection between the US and India.

United Nations International Day of Yoga
When it came to the most nationalities participating in a single yoga session, PM Modi set a Guinness World Record during the June International Day of Yoga (IDY) celebrations at the United Nations (UN).
Recall that in September 2014, during the 69th UN General Assembly, he made the formal proposal for this day.
177 nations co-sponsored the IDY resolution, which the UNGA approved in December 2014.
