Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of Karnataka rejects Kumaraswamy's predictions of an imminent "government collapse."
On Monday, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah dismissed the assertions made by Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Kumaraswamy that his government may soon fall.
He claimed that the opposition parties, the JD(S) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), were “living in an illusion” and “struggling like fish out of water.”
Former chief minister Kumaraswamy, who is also the state president of the JD(S), had earlier hinted that a prominent Congress minister would join the BJP in order to avoid legal action brought by the Center.
He predicted that this would result in the fall of the Congress administration.

Why is this story important?
Kumaraswamy said the Karnataka administration led by the Congress might fall within a day.
He stated on Sunday, “Everything is not well in the Congress government,” in an interview with PTI. I’m not sure when this administration will end. Desperate to get away from the cases against him is a powerful minister.”
Kumaraswamy further claimed that the minister who was defecting would have brought 50–60 MLAs with them.

What Kumaraswamy specifically asserted
Talking to reporters in Hassan, Kumaraswamy asserted, “A (Congress) minister may join the BJP with the support of 50-60 Congress MLAs.”
“The Karnataka administration may be overthrown shortly… Nobody is left with any integrity or loyalty,” he continued.
“Something like Maharashtra—where rebel Shiv Sena MLAs led by incumbent chief minister Eknath Shinde joined the BJP, toppling Uddhav Thackeray’s government—might a happen in Karnataka,” he said.
“Looking at the prevailing political atmosphere, anything can happen,” he stated.

Siddaramaiah asserts that the BJP leaders lack cohesiveness.
In addition to dismissing Kumaraswamy’s predictions that his administration would soon fall, Siddaramaiah made remarks regarding the supposed division among BJP leaders in the assembly as a result of various party divisions.
He claimed that the “Operation Lotus” that the BJP had previously used to seize power had caused them to lose the May assembly elections.
Karnataka assembly elections were swept by the Congress, which won 135 out of 224 seats.
A new alliance between the BJP and JD(S) has been created to take on the Congress in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Siddaramaiah discusses the image scandal and the drought crisis.
Separately, Siddaramaiah gave his word that his administration was ready to deal with any matter brought up by the opposition, including Karnataka’s drought.
He said that the speaker should manage the issue surrounding the controversy surrounding Cabinet minister Priyank Kharge’s desire to have the portrait of Hindutva ideologue Vinayak Damodar Savarkar removed from the assembly chamber.
The Congress criticized the previous BJP government for unveiling Savarkar’s image, saying it was an independent choice made without consulting them.
