Rajasthan assembly elections today: BJP and Congress battle for control
On Saturday, the much awaited Rajasthan assembly election polls opened at 7:00 a.m. It is anticipated that 5.25 crore people will vote by 6:00 p.m.
The primary focus of the polling campaign of the ruling Congress party, which is vying for a second consecutive term, was the Ashok Gehlot government’s performance and output.
In the meantime, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is concentrating on problems like appeasement politics, corruption, and crime against women in an attempt to overthrow the Congress.

Why is this story important?
Rajasthan has 200 assembly seats; however, elections are being held for 199 of those seats since Gurmeet Singh Konoor, a Congress candidate running for the Karanpur seat in Sriganganagar, passed away from sepsis.
Voting on Saturday will involve around 5,25,38,105 voters, although vote counting is not until December 3.
With 99 seats won in the 2018 state assembly elections, the Congress became the single largest party.

Muslim votes could differ in a lot of locations.
10,501 polling stations have been installed in urban areas, and 41,006 units have been installed in rural areas.
26,393 polling places will have live webcasting, and the district-level control room will keep an eye on them all.
On Saturday, banks will also be closed.
The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), led by Asaduddin Owaisi, may split the Muslim vote in a few different places even if the Congress and the BJP are the front-runners.

Sardarpura, Tonk: Examining important stakeholders
For more than thirty years, Congress has consistently won the Sardarpura seat, where Gehlot has been victorious since 1998.
In 2018, with 63% of the vote, the seasoned leader of the grand old party defeated BJP candidate Shambhu Singh in an attempt to win a fourth term as chief minister of Rajasthan.
Ajit Singh Mehta of the BJP is facing off against Sachin Pilot of the Congress in Tonk. Notably, Pilot won a handsomely from this seat the previous time around.

Important BJP bastions in Rajasthan
In contrast, Jhalrapatan, where former state chief minister Vasundhara Raje has held the seat since 2003, is a bastion of the saffron brigade. In the 2018 elections, Raje defeated Congressman Manvendra Singh with 54% of the vote.
Udaipur, another important Rajasthani city, is a BJP bastion. Tarachand Jain of the Saffron Brigade is running from this seat, and Gourav Vallabh has been nominated by the Congress to represent the constituency.
