New Delhi, To fund his lavish lifestyle, a 21-year-old man, along with two associates, allegedly orchestrated an armed robbery to steal 10 lakh from his father in east Delhi’s Laxmi Nagar area, an official said on Wednesday.

All three – Tavleen alias Rehat, son of the victim, Mohit Kumar Tiwari and Pankaj – have been arrested.

According to the police, the complainant was on a two-wheeler in the Laxmi Nagar area and was waylaid by Tavleen and Mohit, who were both wearing masks and riding a scooty.

While Tavleen was riding the scooty, Mohit was pillion and fired two rounds in the air to intimidate the victim. Pankaj was actively involved in planning and executing the offence.

Police said the crime was reported on March 31, following which a case was registered at Laxmi Nagar police station.

A police team scanned over 200 CCTV footage from the area and adjoining routes to trace the suspects.

During the course of the investigation, the complainant’s son, Tavleen, emerged as a key suspect and was apprehended from Mukherjee Nagar while attempting to flee, the officer said, adding that Tavleen had planned the robbery with his associates to obtain easy money for a lavish lifestyle.

Police said Mohit and Pankaj had fled to Bihar on a private bus from Anand Vihar after committing the crime. The police team tracked the vehicle and intercepted it at the Lucknow Toll Plaza, leading to their arrest.

The investigation also revealed that Mohit had procured the pistol used in the crime from Munger in Bihar for 45,000.

Police have recovered the robbed cash and the scooter used in the offence. Efforts are underway to recover the weapon and trace the source of the firearm.

Police added that none of the accused has any previous criminal involvement, while further investigation is underway.
