GrafTech International has informed its customers that graphite electrode prices will increase by $600-1,200 per tonne, depending on the region. The price hikes were effective immediately on any uncommitted volume.
“Over the past three years, market prices for graphite electrodes have declined significantly in each of our key regions and remain below sustainable levels necessary to support continued investment and reliable long-term supply for our customers. In addition, current geopolitical developments are driving increases in our key input costs, including oil‑based raw materials, energy and logistics,” the US-based company said in its press release.
GrafTech added that it has executed several strategic initiatives to structurally improve its cost position and operational efficiency, but the pricing needs to improve. “After a prolonged period of pricing pressure, coupled with rising input costs, a reset in graphite electrode pricing is necessary. While we have taken significant actions to improve our cost structure, this price increase supports reliable supply for our customers, the long-term sustainability of our operations and the creation of shareholder value,” said GrafTech’s CEO Timothy Flanagan.
ICICI Securities said that this is a positive development for the domestic graphite electrode players, which also face profitability pressure due to the subdued global pricing environment, Business Standard reported. It added that management commentary will be the key watch to ascertain how much price hike these Indian players can take.
HEG shares surged more than 14% to trade at Rs 574 apiece on Friday. The stock is down around 9% in 2026 so far. Graphite India shares, which are up around 1% this year, rallied nearly 11% to trade at Rs 659.85 apiece.
