From schoolmates to soulmates: Dulquer Salmaan’s love story
In a conversation with Ranveer Allahbadia, Dulquer Salmaan revealed how his love story unfolded with Amaal. The two went to the same school though she was five years younger but back then, there was no spark between the them. Dulquer began facing pressure from his family to settle down after he finished his studies in the US and returned to India. Despite meeting prospective matches, he disliked the idea of rejecting proposals — until fate stepped in.
According to a report in Times of India, during marriage discussions, Dulquer Salmaan’s friends suggested Amaal’s name, and soon Dulquer found himself running into her frequently in Chennai. Taking it as a sign, he reached out to her on Facebook and after a hesitant start, Amaal agreed to meet for coffee, marking the start of their love story. Dulquer fondly recalls their first long drive to Puducherry, where hours of conversation helped cement their bond.
When families said Yes
Convinced of his feelings, Dulquer Salmaan told his parents, “I’m not interested in an arranged marriage. I met a girl from my school and I want to know if this is real. Please talk to her family.” With both families’ blessings, the wedding was held on December 22, 2011, in Chennai.
Soon after marriage, Dulquer began his career in films with ‘Second Show’ and ‘Ustaad Hotel’. He has often credited Amal as his lucky charm, saying his career flourished after she entered his life. In 2017, the couple welcomed their daughter, Maryam Amira.
